چکیده
The present study shows that the weak (out-of-phase) correlation between boreal spring Atlantic Meridional Mode (AMM) index and Indian summer monsoon rainfall (ISMR) during 1990–2001 periods turned into a significant positive relationship after that. During first period, (MAM) season SST variability is dominated by stronger cooling in southeastern region. After 2002, pattern has north warming extending to equatorial region continuing (JJAS). primary mode of co-occurred with pre-existing El Nino period 1 formation La Nina 2. 1, ENSO-induced anomalies divergence over India region, while 2, warm Atlantic-induced off-equatorial convection associated circulation extended Ocean land resulting increased JJAS. further showed ENSO ISMR also contributed additional wind from Thus, MAM play role phase reversal recent period. Many seasonal prediction models participated NMME project capture AMM-ISMR when initialized February. But have more robust patterns season, are vital absence ENSO. indicates AMM can provide predictive signal for models. NOTES AND CORRESPONDENCE Timing of El Niño–Related Warming and Indian Summer Monsoon Rainfall
The relationship between all-India summer monsoon rainfall (ISMR) and the timing of (El Niño– Southern Oscillation) ENSO-related warming/cooling is investigated, using observational data during the period from 1881 to 1998. The analysis of the evolutions of Indo-Pacific sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies suggests that when ISMR is not below normal despite the co-occurrence of an El Niño ev...
متن کاملIndian Summer Monsoon Rainfall: Implications of Contrasting Trends in the Spatial Variability of Means and Extremes
India's agricultural output, economy, and societal well-being are strappingly dependent on the stability of summer monsoon rainfall, its variability and extremes. Spatial aggregate of intensity and frequency of extreme rainfall events over Central India are significantly increasing, while at local scale they are spatially non-uniform with increasing spatial variability. The reasons behind such ...

متن کاملPacific Ocean sea-surface temperature variability and predictability of rainfall in the early and late parts of the Indian summer monsoon season
For central India and its west coast, rainfall in the early (15 May–20 June) and late (15 September–20 October) monsoon season correlates with Pacific Ocean sea-surface temperature (SST) anomalies in the preceding month (April and August, respectively) sufficiently well, that those SST anomalies can be used to predict such rainfall. The patterns of SST anomalies that correlate best include the ...
